This document should be reviewed by a qualified solicitor before being published. It is written to reflect Age Dictionary's actual service structure but does not constitute legal advice.

These Terms of Service govern your use of Age Dictionary (agedictionary.com). By creating an account, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

Age Dictionary is operated by [YOUR FULL NAME], trading as Age Dictionary, based in the United Kingdom.

1. The Service

Age Dictionary is a vocabulary learning service designed for children aged 6–16. It provides age-appropriate word definitions, contextual examples, reading analysis, and a spaced repetition review system. Adult accounts (parents and teachers) create and manage child profiles. Children use the service through those profiles.

2. Accounts

Adult accounts

To use Age Dictionary as a parent or teacher, you must:

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

Child profiles

Child profiles are created by adult account holders, not by children directly. By creating a child profile, you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian, or that you are a teacher acting with appropriate school authority in relation to that child.

You are responsible for ensuring that the information you provide for a child profile is accurate and that your use of the service complies with any applicable parental consent requirements.

Teacher accounts

Teachers may use Age Dictionary to manage class groups. By using the classroom features, you confirm that:

3. Subscriptions and Billing

Free tier

Age Dictionary offers a free tier that allows limited use of the service, including up to 50 word saves per child per calendar month and up to 10 word lookups per day. Free accounts do not have access to the daily review system or the Reader feature.

Paid plans

We offer paid subscription plans including a Family plan and an Exam Prep plan. Current pricing is displayed at agedictionary.com/pricing and within the app. Prices are shown in your local currency where possible.

Billing

Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance. Billing is handled by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel.

Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you will retain access to paid features until then. We do not offer prorated refunds for partial months.

If you cancel an Exam Prep plan, you will be offered the option to downgrade to the Family plan rather than cancelling entirely. You are under no obligation to accept this offer.

Refunds

We do not offer refunds except where required by law. If you believe you have been charged in error, contact us within 14 days at hello@agedictionary.com.

Price changes

We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any price change by email. Continuing to use the service after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the new price.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms without notice.

5. Content

Your content

Words your child searches, saves, and reviews remain your data. We do not claim ownership of this data. See our Privacy Policy for details on how it is stored and used.

Our content

All definitions, example sentences, and other content generated by Age Dictionary (including AI-generated content) is owned by Age Dictionary or its licensors. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use this content outside the service without written permission.

Sensitive content

Age Dictionary maintains a list of words that are blocked from the service as inappropriate for children. We reserve the right to update this list at any time. If a word your child searches is blocked, no definition will be returned.

6. The Classroom Invitation Feature

Teachers may share a classroom invitation link with parents. This feature is designed for educational use. By using it:

Age Dictionary is not responsible for how invitation links are shared or distributed once they leave the platform.

7. Service Availability

We aim to keep Age Dictionary available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may carry out maintenance, updates, or emergency changes that temporarily affect availability. We will give reasonable notice of planned downtime where possible.

8. Changes to the Service

We may add, change, or remove features from the service at any time. We will give reasonable notice of significant changes that affect paid functionality. If a change substantially reduces the service you have paid for, you may cancel and receive a prorated refund for the remainder of your billing period.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

Age Dictionary is provided "as is." We make no warranties — express or implied — about the accuracy of definitions, the educational outcomes of using the service, or the fitness of the service for any particular purpose. Vocabulary definitions are generated with the assistance of AI and, while reviewed, may occasionally contain errors.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Age Dictionary's liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental losses including loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of educational opportunity.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.

12. Changes to These Terms

We will notify you by email at least 14 days before making material changes to these terms. Continued use of the service after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you may cancel your account before they take effect.
